Solar in SomervilleOur own town, and we would rather get it right
Somerville is where Powerband is based, and it is the suburb where our work is easiest to check. The people we install for shop at the same places we do. That keeps the standard where it should be. It also means a site visit here can usually happen the same day or the next, because nobody has to travel.
The town itself is mostly brick veneer from the 1980s through the 2000s, with newer estates on the edges and a ring of acreage, orchards and horse properties beyond that. Each one is a different solar job. Township homes are typically single-phase with a tile or Colorbond roof and a garage wall for the battery. The rural properties often have three-phase, a big shed and loads like pumps to plan for. Our three written-up Somerville systems cover that spread: 10.12kW on a single-phase home, 14.25kW on a three-phase one, and an 18.05kW replacement of a worn-out array.
That last kind of job is becoming common. A fair number of Somerville roofs took solar around 2010, and those systems are now small, ageing and in some cases failing. Replacing one properly is covered below, and everything else we do locally is on the main Somerville page.
