Is a home battery worth it in Melbourne?

For most homes with solar and a normal evening load, yes. Melbourne's peak tariff window is exactly when a battery discharges, and the current Victorian and federal incentives have brought paybacks down substantially. If you are home during the day and export little, it is less clear-cut, and we will tell you so.

What size battery do I need?

Most Melbourne homes land between 10kWh and 16kWh, enough to cover the evening peak. Larger homes, EV owners and anyone wanting long backup go bigger. We size from your usage data, not a rule of thumb.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar?

Yes. Tesla Powerwall works with any existing system. Sigenergy and Sungrow batteries pair with their own hybrid inverters, which can replace your existing inverter if it is due. We tell you which route makes sense for your setup.

How long do solar batteries last?

Lithium batteries are typically warranted for 10 years and last 10 to 15 depending on how hard they cycle. All three brands we install carry 10-year manufacturer warranties.

Will my battery keep the house running in a blackout?

If backup circuits are configured, yes, for the circuits we set up. A 13kWh battery will run fridge, lights and internet for a long time; running the ducted heating as well needs a bigger battery. We set this up with you at commissioning.

What rebates are available for batteries in Victoria?

Solar Victoria offers a battery rebate and an interest-free loan for eligible households, and there is a federal home battery discount applied at point of sale. Eligibility depends on the property and household, and we confirm it before you commit.

We have just had a Braemer Dominator reverse cycle ducted system installed by the Powerband Electrical team to replace our gas-fired system. We were very happy with the whole process, from the sales/design discussions with Dayle to the installation by the team led by Julian and including Logan and Darren. Julian set up the AirTouch5 control system & zoning with us and with a sudden cold snap arriving it has proven simple to use to create a comfortable environment. Had the Powerband team electrify out whole house. Updated the heating / cooling with split systems, replace gas cooktop & hot water and put solar on with a 30kw battery. No gas bill, solar is producing more energy than we consume. These days we barely even have the supply charge.
