Designed around your roof and your bills

Most solar quotes in Melbourne start with a package (6.6kW, 10kW, 13kW) and work backwards to your roof. We start with your usage, your roof and what else you are planning to electrify, and design a system that covers it. Sometimes that means a smaller array than the last quote you got. Sometimes it means a bigger battery. The point is simple: you get a system designed for how your home actually uses energy, with a clear after-rebate price before you commit.

Powerband is a solar-accredited installer and New Energy Tech Approved Seller, with licensed electricians handling your system from design through installation. We also install the heat pumps, air conditioning and EV chargers that can make the most of your solar energy. Planning to take the whole house off gas? Start with our home electrification services. It means we can size your solar and battery system around the way your home will actually use energy — not just today's electricity bill.

What we install

Panels, battery and the brains between them

Three parts working together: solar panels, battery storage and the technology that controls them. We supply and install the complete system, using products with Australian warranty support.

Solar Panels & Inverters

We match the panel and inverter to your roof, energy use and budget rather than pushing a standard package. We consider orientation, shading, available roof space and how much electricity you actually use during the day.

  • Aiko panels
  • Fronius and SolarEdge inverters
  • Sungrow and GoodWe inverters

Battery storage

Stores excess solar during the day so you can use more of your own energy in the evening. We size the battery around your actual evening load and configure backup circuits with you before we leave..

Monitoring and control

Every system leaves with monitoring set up on your phone so you can see generation, storage and export. Solar-aware EV charging and hot-water control can also be added, helping you use more of your solar energy at home instead of exporting it to the grid.

  • App monitoring set up on the day
  • EV charger integration
  • Heat pump hot water timing
  • Export limits handled with your retailer
How it works

From sunlight to the evening peak

Five steps from sunlight to the energy you use at home — with the battery helping you make more of your solar after the sun goes down.

  1. 01
    Panels make DC power

Sunlight hits the panels and produces direct current. Output depends on the size of the system, roof orientation, shading and your local conditions — which is why we design around your actual roof rather than a standard kit.

  2. 02
    The inverter converts it

DC becomes the AC your home runs on. A hybrid inverter can manage both solar generation and battery storage in one system. The right setup depends on your existing equipment, future plans and how you use energy.

  3. 03
    Your home uses it first

Anything running during the day, from the fridge to the heat pump to the EV, is powered from the roof before you need to draw additional electricity from the grid.

  4. 04
    The battery stores the rest

When your solar produces more than the home is using, the surplus can charge the battery instead of being exported. You can then use that stored energy later when solar production falls.

  5. 05
    Backup when the grid drops

With a compatible battery and backup circuits configured, selected essential circuits can continue operating when the grid goes down. We agree on those circuits with you before installation.

Rebates & Incentives

Explained Upfront

Eligible rebates, discounts and incentives can make a significant difference to the upfront cost. We check what applies to your system and show the relevant benefit in your quote before you commit.

01
Solar Victoria rebates and loans

Eligible Victorian households may be able to access Solar Victoria rebates and interest-free loans for solar and battery systems. We check the requirements with you and help with the application process where applicable.

02
Small-scale technology certificates (STCs)

Eligible solar systems can receive an upfront discount through the federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. We apply the relevant STC benefit to your quote rather than leaving you to work it out afterwards.

03
Cheaper Home batteries program

Eligible battery installations may receive a federal discount through the Cheaper Home Batteries Program. The amount depends on the system and installation circumstances, so we confirm the applicable benefit when we quote.

Why Powerband

Solar from the people who also do the rest of the house

A solar-only installer can size to what your home used last year. We look at where your energy use is heading — including heating & cooling, hot water systems, induction cooking and EV charging — so the system can work with the home you actually want.

01
SAA accredited. A-Grade installed

Powerband's solar installations are backed by Solar Accreditation Australia accreditation, with every panel and battery installed by our own A-Grade electricians. We don't subcontract the installation.

02
Sized for the all-electric home

If you're also moving away from gas heating, hot water or cooking, we account for that future electricity use when sizing your solar and battery. You're not just buying for today's bill — you're planning for the home you're moving towards.

03
Rebates and loans lodged for you

We identify the rebates, discounts and incentives that may apply to your system, show them clearly in the quote and help with the relevant application or documentation. Eligibility is confirmed before you commit.

04
Brands we would put on our own roofs

Sigenergy, Tesla Powerwall, Sungrow, Fronius, SolarEdge, GoodWe, Jinko and Aiko. We choose products with established support and warranty pathways in Australia, and we'll explain why we're recommending each option.

The whole experience of working with Powerband has been fantastic. From the get go they were helpful with the design, requirements and answering all the questions we had about the install. We couldn't be happier with choosing them for the job. Special thanks to Bailey and the team for getting the entire installation done in one day it was a huge job so for it to be done and to such a high standard is much appreciated Thanks everyone at Powerband for all you've done

We have just had a Braemer Dominator reverse cycle ducted system installed by the Powerband Electrical team to replace our gas-fired system. We were very happy with the whole process, from the sales/design discussions with Dayle to the installation by the team led by Julian and including Logan and Darren. Using the existing ducting had its challenges but the team overcame them well. Julian set up the AirTouch5 control system & zoning with us and with a sudden cold snap arriving it has proven simple to use to create a comfortable environment. In fact we are already finding it far more effective system than the considerably larger gas unit and a more uniform heat with less draughts. Thanks to the Powerband team. Ken in Glen Waverley

Petris and his electrical team did 2 inverter airconditioner installs as part of our whole solar system install. Great workers, good thinkers who could sort out a couple of small issues in short order and wonderful people to have around our house. Organised and professional. Highly recommend Powerband.

Had the Powerband team electrify out whole house. Updated the heating / cooling with split systems, replace gas cooktop & hot water and put solar on with a 30kw battery. No gas bill, solar is producing more energy than we consume. These days we barely even have the supply charge. As part of it, they put the package together of what we wanted and needed to future proof our house and showed us several options for paying for it, in the end we opted for a 5-year interest free loan. Looking at our numbers, most of the loan will be paid off from the savings from our gas and electricity savings. All the work and upgrades done and barely any out of pocket cost, nice.... The team were great - worked in with timing for the jobs when it worked for us. The boys on site were all great, friendly, polite and professional. Did the job well and packed up (and cleaned up) well. Happy to recommend Powerband to anyone wanting to electrify their house in a cost-effective way.

FAQ

Solar and battery questions

Anything else, call 0466 355 441. You will get an electrician, not a salesperson.

How much does a solar and battery system cost in Melbourne?

It depends on system size, battery capacity and your switchboard. Rebates and STCs come off the top and Solar Victoria offers interest-free loans on both solar and batteries for eligible households. We give you a fixed after-rebate figure at the site inspection, not a range.

What size solar system do I need?

We size to your daytime usage and, if you are going all-electric, to the new load from heat pumps, induction and EV charging. A 6.6kW system suits a lot of Melbourne homes, but a house with an EV and a heat pump hot water unit often justifies more. The site inspection settles it.

Is a battery worth it?

In Melbourne, usually yes once you have a decent evening load. The battery moves your own solar into the 4pm to 9pm peak, which is when grid power costs the most, and it gives you blackout protection. The current rebates have shortened the payback considerably.

How long do solar panels and batteries last?

Panels carry 25-year performance warranties and typically produce well beyond that. Lithium batteries are generally warranted for 10 years and last 10 to 15. Inverters are usually the first thing replaced, at around 10 to 12 years.

What rebates are available for solar and batteries in Victoria?

Solar Victoria rebates on panels and batteries, plus interest-free loans, for eligible owner-occupiers. Federal small-scale technology certificates (STCs) on solar. A federal home battery discount for eligible installations. Eligibility depends on the property and household, and we confirm it before you commit.

Will my solar work in a blackout?

Standard solar shuts down when the grid drops, for safety. With a battery and backup circuits configured, the essentials stay on. We set up the backup circuits with you as part of the install.

Do you install solar for businesses?

Yes. Commercial rooftop solar and battery systems for warehouses, offices, retail and multi-unit sites across Melbourne, including load analysis and export management with your retailer.

Which suburbs do you cover?

All of Melbourne, from the inner suburbs to the Mornington Peninsula. We are based in Somerville. See the locations page or call and we will confirm.
