Tesla Powerwall installer Melbourne

Tesla Powerwall 3, installed by Powerband

A 13.5kWh battery with an 11.5kW solar inverter built in, so the panels plug straight into the Powerwall and there is no separate inverter to buy. Whole-home backup out of the box, Tesla app, installed by our own SAA-accredited electricians across Melbourne.

What Powerwall 3 is

The battery that is also the inverter

Powerwall 2 needed a separate solar inverter on the wall next to it. Powerwall 3 does not. It has its own 11.5kW solar inverter with six independent inputs, so up to six panel strings connect directly to the battery. One box does the solar conversion, the storage and the backup switching, and the Tesla app runs the lot. For a new solar and battery system that means fewer components, less wall space and one warranty.

It is also the simplest retrofit for a home that already has solar. Powerwall 3 accepts an existing inverter on the AC side, so the old system stays and the battery goes in alongside it. Where SigenStor wins on modular expansion, Powerwall wins on the ecosystem: if there is a Tesla in the driveway, the app already knows about it. System design is on the solar and battery page; this page is the Powerwall hardware.

How we spec it

Three ways a Powerwall 3 goes in

Almost every Powerwall quote we write is one of these three. The right one depends on what is already on the roof and how much backup you want.

Powerwall 3, 13.5kWh6.6 to 13kW new solar
New solar straight into the Powerwall
New solar plus Powerwall

New system: solar and 13.5kWh

Panels wired directly into the Powerwall 3 inverter. No separate solar inverter, one box on the wall, whole-home backup on day one. The cleanest install for a home starting from scratch, and the one most of our Powerwall customers choose.

  • Up to 20kW of panels
  • 13.5kWh storage
  • Whole-home backup
  • One warranty

Powerwall plus one expansion unit
Powerwall plus expansion

Large home: 27kWh

A Powerwall 3 with a DC expansion pack, 27kWh total. For big all-electric homes, ducted heating and cooling, a pool or two EVs. Up to three expansions fit on one Powerwall if you ever need 54kWh, without a second inverter.

  • 27kWh storage
  • Up to 54kWh possible
  • 10kW continuous
  • Heat pump and EV ready
Powerwall 3, 13.5kWhYour existing solar, AC coupled
Existing solar stays, Powerwall added
Retrofit to existing solar

Retrofit: keep your solar, add 13.5kWh

Your current inverter and panels stay exactly as they are. Powerwall 3 connects on the AC side, stores the excess and backs up the house. If the old inverter is near end of life we can move the panels onto the Powerwall’s inverter at the same time.

  • No change to existing panels
  • 13.5kWh storage
  • Backup added
  • Inverter swap optional

Pricing depends on whether the solar is new or existing, expansion units, switchboard condition and phase. We quote against your bill with the battery rebates already applied.

Installation

How a Powerwall install runs

Tesla certifies installers for Powerwall, and our own electricians do every step. A Powerwall on its own is usually a one-day job, with new solar it is one to two.

Compare

Powerwall 3 against the other systems we install

Powerwall is a strong choice, not the only one. These are the systems we quote against it most often and when each one wins.

Why Powerband

Powerwall from the crew that does the whole house

We install the heat pump, the induction cooktop and the EV charger the Powerwall will be running. That changes how we spec it.

01
Sized for the all-electric house

If the gas is coming out, the evening load is going up. We size panels and storage for the house you are heading towards, and tell you when an expansion unit is worth it and when it is not.

02
Tesla certified, and our own electricians

Tesla warrants Powerwall only when a certified installer fits it. Ours are SAA accredited and A-Grade, on our payroll. The same crew comes back if you add an expansion later.

03
Rebates handled

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount on the Powerwall, Solar Victoria rebate and STCs on new panels. Checked at inspection, applied on the quote, lodged by us.

04
Backup done properly

Powerwall 3 can back up the whole home, but only if the switchboard is set up for it. We wire and test full-home backup as standard, including the loads that matter in a Melbourne winter.

The whole experience of working with Powerband has been fantastic. From the get go they were helpful with the design, requirements and answering all the questions we had about the install. We couldn't be happier with choosing them for the job. Special thanks to Bailey and the team for getting the entire installation done in one day it was a huge job so for it to be done and to such a high standard is much appreciated Thanks everyone at Powerband for all you've done

We have just had a Braemer Dominator reverse cycle ducted system installed by the Powerband Electrical team to replace our gas-fired system. We were very happy with the whole process, from the sales/design discussions with Dayle to the installation by the team led by Julian and including Logan and Darren. Using the existing ducting had its challenges but the team overcame them well. Julian set up the AirTouch5 control system & zoning with us and with a sudden cold snap arriving it has proven simple to use to create a comfortable environment. In fact we are already finding it far more effective system than the considerably larger gas unit and a more uniform heat with less draughts. Thanks to the Powerband team. Ken in Glen Waverley

Petris and his electrical team did 2 inverter airconditioner installs as part of our whole solar system install. Great workers, good thinkers who could sort out a couple of small issues in short order and wonderful people to have around our house. Organised and professional. Highly recommend Powerband.

Had the Powerband team electrify out whole house. Updated the heating / cooling with split systems, replace gas cooktop & hot water and put solar on with a 30kw battery. No gas bill, solar is producing more energy than we consume. These days we barely even have the supply charge. As part of it, they put the package together of what we wanted and needed to future proof our house and showed us several options for paying for it, in the end we opted for a 5-year interest free loan. Looking at our numbers, most of the loan will be paid off from the savings from our gas and electricity savings. All the work and upgrades done and barely any out of pocket cost, nice.... The team were great - worked in with timing for the jobs when it worked for us. The boys on site were all great, friendly, polite and professional. Did the job well and packed up (and cleaned up) well. Happy to recommend Powerband to anyone wanting to electrify their house in a cost-effective way.

FAQ

Tesla Powerwall questions

Anything else, call 0466 355 441. You will get an electrician, not a salesperson.

Does Powerwall 3 need a separate solar inverter?

No. Powerwall 3 has an 11.5kW solar inverter built in with six independent inputs, so new panels connect directly to it. That is the main change from Powerwall 2, which needed a separate inverter on the wall.

Can I add a Powerwall 3 to my existing solar?

Yes. It AC couples to your existing inverter, so nothing on the roof changes. If your inverter is old or undersized we can move the panels onto the Powerwall’s own inverter at the same time, which usually costs less than replacing the inverter separately.

How much does a Tesla Powerwall 3 cost installed in Melbourne?

It depends on whether the solar is new or existing, whether you add expansion units, and your switchboard and phase. We quote against your bill with the federal battery discount already taken off. Book the free site inspection and you will have a fixed number within a few days.

Will Powerwall 3 back up my whole house?

Yes, on most homes. It delivers 10kW continuous under the Australian specification, which covers ducted air conditioning, cooking and an EV charger together. Backup switching is built in, and we wire whole-home backup as standard.

How long does a Powerwall last in a blackout?

A typical Melbourne home uses 15 to 25kWh a day, so 13.5kWh runs essentials overnight and much longer if the panels are producing during the day. Storm Watch in the Tesla app charges the battery to full ahead of forecast severe weather.

Powerwall 3 or Sigenergy SigenStor?

Powerwall if you want a single 13.5kWh unit, the Tesla app and a Tesla in the driveway. SigenStor if you want to start with 8kWh and grow, or want DC EV charging and vehicle-to-home from the same stack. Both are excellent and we install both, so the site inspection decides it, not a preference.

Is Powerwall 3 eligible for the federal battery rebate?

Yes. Powerwall 3 is on the approved product list for the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, and new panels qualify for the Solar Victoria rebate and STCs. We confirm eligibility at inspection and apply it all on the quote.

Which suburbs do you install Powerwall in?

All of Melbourne, from the inner suburbs to the Mornington Peninsula. We are based in Somerville. See the locations page or call and we will confirm.
