Solar in RosebudA town that went solar early, and is now topping up
Drive along Point Nepean Road through Rosebud and count the roofs with panels on them. A lot of them went up ten or more years ago, when 1.5 to 5kW with a string inverter on the side wall was the normal system. Those systems still make power, but the inverters are near the end of their working life and the owners now want a battery as well. That is the job we are asked about most often here.
Rosebud also has more full-time residents than the beach towns further down, many of them retired and home during the day, plus streets of villa units and older brick veneer near the shops. A household that is home at lunchtime already uses a good share of its own solar. What it lacks is storage for the evening and something to keep the fridge and lights on when the wind brings the lines down, which happens on this stretch of coast more than it does in town.
So we look at what is already on the roof before we sell anything. Sometimes a battery can sit alongside the old inverter. Sometimes the honest answer is a new hybrid inverter and extra panels on the faces that were left empty. Either way, it is written up in one fixed quote, alongside the rest of our work in Rosebud.
