Solar in KeysboroughTwo suburbs sharing one name
Ask someone where they live in Keysborough and the answer tells us most of what we need to know about their solar. The northern half is the original suburb: 1970s and 1980s brick veneer, single storey, on a decent block with a plain hipped tile roof. To the south are the estates built since about 2010, where the homes are large, modern, frequently two storey and set close to the boundary. Same postcode, opposite problems.
In older Keysborough the roof is rarely the obstacle. There is usually a generous north or west face with little on it, and many of these homes have never had panels. The work is in the electrical system, because a 45-year-old switchboard has to be replaced before it can take a battery. In Keysborough South the board is modern and the garage is ready for a battery, but the roof is divided into small faces and may already carry a small system that came with the house.
So the first job is working out which conversation we are having: a full new system on a simple roof, or making more of a complicated one. Both end in the same place, with enough generation and storage to cover the evening and whatever is still to be electrified. The suburb page has more on what else we do in Keysborough.
