Solar in FrankstonGood roofs, and a lot of them still empty
Frankston is one of the easier suburbs in Melbourne to put solar on. The streets between the Nepean Highway and Cranbourne Road are mostly single-storey brick veneer from the 1960s to the 1980s, with simple tile roofs, few tall trees and at least one face pointing north or east. Solar uptake in 3199 still sits below the newer estates further out, so on most streets we are fitting a first system, not replacing an old one.
What has changed is the size. A few years ago the standard quote was 6.6kW with no battery. The three systems we finished here most recently were 15.2kW, 12.35kW and 13.72kW, each with 24 to 40kWh of storage, because the owners were planning for a heat pump, reverse cycle heating or an EV as well as the power bill. We size for that from the start, so the system is not short the day the gas heater goes.
The switchboard is the other Frankston story. Plenty of these homes still run the original board, sometimes inside a wardrobe or a hallway cupboard, and it has to be right before a battery goes on it. We check it at the site visit and price any upgrade into the same fixed quote, next to the other work we do in Frankston.
