Solar in Cranbourne SouthThe best roof on the property is often the shed
Cranbourne South does not look like the rest of Cranbourne. South of the estates the blocks open out into acreage, horse properties and lifestyle land, with long driveways, big machinery sheds and a house set well back from the road. A solar design that works on a suburban street does not carry over. The house roof may be shaded by a windbreak while a shed 50 metres away has a long, clear, north-facing roof with nothing on it.
So we start by walking the property. Which roof gets the sun, where the main switchboard and any sub-boards are, whether the supply is single or three-phase, and how far apart all of those sit. On one Cranbourne South job the answer was 28 panels along the shed roof, a three-phase GoodWe inverter and six battery modules on a new concrete pad against the wall. Distance matters here: cable has to be sized for the length of the run, and that is worked out before the quote, not found out on install day.
Many properties here have no mains gas. Hot water, heating, bore and tank pumps and the workshop all sit on the electricity meter or on LPG bottles, which is why batteries in Cranbourne South tend to be large. The suburb also has conventional homes on residential streets and in lifestyle villages, and two of our three local jobs were on tile-roofed houses. Read more about our work in Cranbourne South.
