Solar in Botanic RidgeTwo near-identical arrays, two very different batteries
Botanic Ridge sits right beside the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne, and the houses are a step up in size from most of the Casey estates. Built from about 2010, around Settlers Run and the streets that followed, they are four and five bedroom family homes, a good share of them double storey, on blocks wide enough that the roof has long, clear faces. The estate planting is still young, so shade is rarely a problem.
Those roofs take a 12kW-class array without fuss. Both systems we have written up here are that size: 25 panels for 11.875kW on one home, 26 panels for 12.35kW on the other. The batteries are where they part ways. One household chose 30.6kWh and the other 16.64kWh, because one runs far more through the evening than the other. The battery in a Botanic Ridge quote is set by how you live, not by the size of the house.
Most homes here were connected to gas when built and still use it for heating, hot water and cooking. If any of that is likely to go electric in the next few years, the time to allow for it is when the solar is designed. We ask about it at the site visit. Our other local services are on the Botanic Ridge page.
