Solar in Bentleigh EastLess roof, more storage
Bentleigh East is two suburbs at once. One is the postwar single-storey brick veneer and weatherboard homes on blocks of about 600 square metres. The other is everything built where those houses used to be: double-storey family homes and side-by-side townhouses that fill more of the block and have a roof broken into smaller faces. On the newer homes there is simply less room for panels, and getting onto a second-storey roof safely takes more planning.
That changes the design. The double-storey Bentleigh East home we fitted out carries 8.075kW of solar, a modest array, with 24.96kWh of GoodWe storage behind it. The battery is large for the panels because the household uses most of its power after dark, and on a short winter day every kilowatt-hour the roof makes needs somewhere to go other than back to the grid for a few cents.
The same job needed a main switchboard upgrade, which is common here in homes of every age. We check the board, the supply and the battery position before quoting, and price it all in one figure. Our other work nearby is on the Bentleigh East page.
