Heating in Bentleigh EastDucted gas in the roof, a tank down the side
The standard Bentleigh East house built between the 1950s and the 1980s has the same gas set-up: a ducted gas heater in the roof or under the floor, a gas storage hot water tank against the side wall and a gas cooktop in the kitchen. The rebuilds that replaced many of those homes often kept the pattern, with gas ducted heating and a separate cooling system. That is two machines and a gas bill for a job one reverse cycle system now does.
On a single-storey home with a roof space we can work in, the swap is straightforward. The gas heater and ducts come out, and a ducted reverse cycle unit goes in on new R1.5 insulated ducts sized to it, typically over one to two days. Homes on stumps with floor vents are worth a closer look: moving to ceiling outlets in the roof usually cools far better, because cold air falls from the ceiling while warm air from the floor rises. We go through the options on site.
Heating is usually the first piece. Once it is electric, heat pump hot water and an induction cooktop can follow, and the gas supply charge goes with them. We are about 40 minutes from Bentleigh East. See our other Bentleigh East services.
