Solar in Safety BeachNothing shades the roof. The salt is the issue
Safety Beach is the flat stretch of bay between the Mount Martha hill and Dromana, and for solar that is good news. There is little slope, few tall trees and not much to shade a roof from sunrise to late afternoon. The two systems we have installed here produce accordingly: one owner's usage data showed grid consumption down 98.9 percent on the previous billing period, with near-zero grid use in the middle of winter.
The cost of that open exposure is salt. Every home in Safety Beach is close to the water, and the canal and marina homes at Martha Cove have it on more than one side. Salt does not hurt a panel, but it finds cheap fixings, unsealed isolators and battery enclosures left in the weather. We use salt-rated mounting and outdoor gear on every job here and put the battery inside the garage wherever there is one.
The other local factor is how the houses are used. A good share are holiday homes that sit empty from Sunday night to Friday, and a system for that pattern is not the same as one for a family home. We ask how often you are down before sizing anything. More about our work in Safety Beach is on the suburb page.
