Solar in Endeavour HillsThe suburb was named for a ship and built on a hill
Endeavour Hills was laid out in the 1970s and 1980s over rising ground, and the builders followed the land. Instead of flat slabs, a lot of the homes are split-level or two storey, stepped down the block with a garage tucked under one end. The roofs match: tile, 40 to 50 years old, broken into upper and lower sections at different heights. None of that stops solar. It does mean a design made from a satellite photo and a phone call will be wrong.
Slope cuts both ways. A house on the north side of a street may have its best roof face tilted well towards the sun and clear of everything. The one opposite can sit in the shadow of the hill, the neighbour above or a gum that was a sapling in 1982. We measure shade on each face separately and put panels only where they will earn their place, which sometimes means a west face for late afternoon instead of a compromised north one.
Then there is the wiring. Homes of this age commonly still have the original switchboard, and a battery cannot be connected to it safely. We check the board, the mains and the meter position on the first visit, and the upgrade goes into the same fixed quote as the panels. You can see how solar fits with our other work in Endeavour Hills on the suburb page.
