Home electrification Mount Eliza VIC 3930

Home electrification Mount Eliza, room by room

Large and two-storey homes, gas heating, a gas tank and a gas cooktop, and often panels already on the roof. We plan the whole electric house at the first inspection and do it in stages or all at once, with every trade on our own staff.

Electrification in Mount Eliza

A big house, planned in one go

Home electrification Mount Eliza homes need is usually a bigger plan than in the suburbs closer to town. The houses are larger, many are two-storey, and heating a big floor area with gas is where most of the energy money goes. Hot water and a gas cooktop follow behind it. The trees that make the streets what they are also shape the roof, so the solar side of the plan needs as much care as the heating.

Heating comes first in most of these homes. A zoned ducted reverse cycle system lets you heat the rooms you are using, and multi-head systems suit houses where ducts are awkward. Reverse cycle heats for around a third of the running cost of gas heating, and it cools in summer as well. Heat pump hot water and an induction cooktop follow, and the solar and battery are sized to carry the electric house at the end, not the gas house at the start.

Plenty of homes here already have panels, so the battery and any upgrade often come into the plan early. Before any of it, we check the switchboard and the phase. Then it is one plan from the first inspection, staged as you like, with the rest of our work in Mount Eliza.

What changes in a Mount Eliza home

Four swaps for a larger house

Each one done by our own A-Grade electricians, plumbers or ARC licensed technicians.

01

Zoned heating for the whole floor area

Braemar, Mitsubishi Electric or Hisense ducted reverse cycle on new R1.5 insulated ducts, typically one to two days, with AirTouch 5 zones so upstairs and downstairs run separately. In a two-storey where the ducts genuinely cannot be replaced, a Braemar Dominator keeps them. Split or multi-head systems cover homes without ducts.

  • AirTouch 5 zoning
  • New R1.5 ducts by default
  • Dominator only where needed
02

Heat pump hot water

An Emerald, Reclaim, iStore or Haier heat pump in place of the gas tank, sized for the household and placed on a sheltered wall. Normally a one-day swap.

  • Up to 330L
  • Plumber and electrician together
  • VEU and STCs applied
03

Induction in the kitchen

Often the last gas appliance standing. It gets its own circuit, and with no rebate on cooktops it is a simple fixed price.

  • Own circuit
  • Fixed price
  • No gas appliances left
04

A battery for the solar you have

If the roof already carries panels, a battery stores the daytime surplus for the evening heating load. If the array is old or too small, we replace or extend it around the trees, sized for the finished electric house.

  • Federal battery discount
  • Upgrades sized for the new load
  • Layouts around the trees

None of these is in Mount Eliza itself. Two are a few minutes away in Mount Martha, and one is a double-storey in Blairgowrie.

All case studies

The independent electrical inspector complimented the work.

How we stage it

The order that suits a Mount Eliza home

Big homes are often done over more than one visit. The plan keeps each stage from undoing the last.

Powerband electrical technician installing a reverse cycle heating and cooling system
  1. 01
    One inspection

Heating, hot water, cooktop, switchboard, phase, roof and trees, all looked at together.

  2. 02
    Board and phase settled

Any switchboard upgrade is planned up front so every new circuit has room.

  3. 03
    Heating

Usually first in a large home, because it is the biggest gas user and adds cooling.

  4. 04
    Hot water and cooktop

Heat pump in one day, induction on its own circuit.

  5. 05
Battery and solar last or alongside

Sized for the finished house, then the last gas appliance goes.

Incentives by item

What each stage qualifies for

There is no single electrification rebate. Each item has its own, or none, and we apply them on the quote.

01
Federal battery discount

The Cheaper Home Batteries discount, around 30 percent off an approved battery with no income test. There is no Solar Victoria battery rebate or loan now.

02
VEU on heating and hot water

Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts apply to reverse cycle heating and cooling and to heat pump hot water. Our Mount Eliza heating and cooling page has more on the heating side.

03
Solar Victoria, STCs, fixed prices

Solar Victoria rebate and interest-free loan on panels and inverters for eligible owner-occupiers, STCs on panels and heat pump hot water, and a fixed price on induction and EV chargers, which carry no rebate.

The whole experience of working with Powerband has been fantastic. From the get go they were helpful with the design, requirements and answering all the questions we had about the install. We couldn't be happier with choosing them for the job. Special thanks to Bailey and the team for getting the entire installation done in one day it was a huge job so for it to be done and to such a high standard is much appreciated Thanks everyone at Powerband for all you've done

We have just had a Braemer Dominator reverse cycle ducted system installed by the Powerband Electrical team to replace our gas-fired system. We were very happy with the whole process, from the sales/design discussions with Dayle to the installation by the team led by Julian and including Logan and Darren. Using the existing ducting had its challenges but the team overcame them well. Julian set up the AirTouch5 control system & zoning with us and with a sudden cold snap arriving it has proven simple to use to create a comfortable environment. In fact we are already finding it far more effective system than the considerably larger gas unit and a more uniform heat with less draughts. Thanks to the Powerband team. Ken in Glen Waverley

Petris and his electrical team did 2 inverter airconditioner installs as part of our whole solar system install. Great workers, good thinkers who could sort out a couple of small issues in short order and wonderful people to have around our house. Organised and professional. Highly recommend Powerband.

Had the Powerband team electrify out whole house. Updated the heating / cooling with split systems, replace gas cooktop & hot water and put solar on with a 30kw battery. No gas bill, solar is producing more energy than we consume. These days we barely even have the supply charge. As part of it, they put the package together of what we wanted and needed to future proof our house and showed us several options for paying for it, in the end we opted for a 5-year interest free loan. Looking at our numbers, most of the loan will be paid off from the savings from our gas and electricity savings. All the work and upgrades done and barely any out of pocket cost, nice.... The team were great - worked in with timing for the jobs when it worked for us. The boys on site were all great, friendly, polite and professional. Did the job well and packed up (and cleaned up) well. Happy to recommend Powerband to anyone wanting to electrify their house in a cost-effective way.

FAQ

Mount Eliza electrification questions

Call 0466 355 441 and talk it through with us.

Where do we start in a two-storey Mount Eliza home?

Usually with the heating, because it uses the most gas. Zoned ducted reverse cycle lets upstairs and downstairs run on their own.

We already have solar. Does that change the plan?

It moves the battery up the list. A battery stores your daytime surplus for the evening heating. If the array is old or small, we look at replacing or extending it.

Can our existing ducts stay?

Our default is new R1.5 insulated ducts. A Braemar Dominator keeps existing ducts only where they cannot be replaced, which is usually a double-storey.

Do the trees matter?

For the solar, yes. We lay panels out around the shade and size the battery to suit what the roof can actually produce.

How long does home electrification Mount Eliza homes need take?

It depends on how many stages. Ducted reverse cycle is typically one to two days, a heat pump one day, and many solar and battery jobs are one day. Most people spread it over a few visits.

Is there a rebate on going all-electric?

Not as one rebate. VEU covers heating and hot water, Solar Victoria covers eligible panels and inverters, batteries get the federal discount, and cooktops and chargers have none.
