EV charging in SeafordWhere you park decides the job
Seaford was not built around the car. The postwar weatherboards and 1960s brick veneers between the Nepean Highway and the wetlands often have a single carport down the side, an old garage at the back of the block, or just a driveway. The units built behind them on subdivided lots usually share a driveway and have a carport each. So before we talk brands, the first question on a Seaford site visit is simple: where does the car sit overnight, and how far is that from the switchboard?
The second question is the board itself. A house this age often still has its original switchboard, with ceramic fuses and no room for another circuit. A charger needs its own dedicated, protected circuit, so if the board cannot take one we replace it and put that in the same fixed price. Homes of this era are mostly single-phase, though we confirm yours, and single-phase gives about 7kW on a 32A circuit, or roughly 40km of range for every hour on the charger. For a car that does the daily run up the highway and back, overnight is plenty.
Carports and driveways near the bay bring a third consideration: weather and salt. A charger on an open carport post or an outside wall is exposed in a way a garage unit is not, so we mount it out of the worst of the rain, use outdoor-rated fittings and keep the cable run tidy along the wall. It is the same care we take with the rest of our work in Seaford.
