Hot water in SeafordThe tank down the side path
On most Seaford blocks the hot water unit lives in the same place: against an outside wall on the side path, between the fence and the house, a few steps from the laundry. In many of the brick veneers that is a gas storage tank, in some weatherboards and units it is an electric element tank, and here and there an old rooftop solar system is still hanging on. Plenty are well into their second decade. When one fails, the quick fix is the same unit again, and that locks in another ten years of the same running cost.
A heat pump does the job with about a quarter of the energy of a gas storage unit. It looks like a tall tank with a fan on top, or a tank with a separate compressor, and it takes the place of the old unit on the same patch of side path. The swap is normally done in one day, with our plumber and electrician on site together, so you have hot water again by evening. We replace old systems rather than repair them, so the quote is for a new unit sized to your household.
Seaford adds two site questions. A narrow side path between the house and the fence needs a unit that fits with room for air to move around it, and on a subdivided block the neighbour's bedroom window may be close. Near the foreshore and Kananook Creek, salt air means we look hard at where the unit and its fittings sit. Both are covered at the site visit, alongside the other work we do in Seaford.
