Mains gas, LPG bottles or an electric element tank: whatever heats your water now, a heat pump timed to the middle of the day can do it from the panels on your roof. Our own plumber and electrician swap it in, normally in one day.
Hot water in Mornington is less predictable than in suburbs closer to the city. Mains gas runs through parts of the suburb and not others. The brick homes in the estates off Mornington-Tyabb Road are more likely to have gas hot water, some properties on the edges heat water with LPG bottles, and older beach houses and weatherboards nearer Main Street may run an electric element tank. A few still have old rooftop solar hot water. So the first thing we do is find out which one you have and what it is costing you.
Whichever it is, the answer is usually the same. A heat pump makes hot water with about a quarter of the energy of a gas storage unit, and it pays off most in a house that already has solar, which in Mornington is a lot of houses. Set the timer to the middle of the day and the heat pump runs largely on panels that would otherwise be exporting. Of all the hot water systems Mornington homes could choose, it is the one that makes an older array earn its keep, and the swap is normally a single day.
Placement matters on the coast. Salt air reaches well back from Fisherman's Beach and the Esplanade, so we site the unit out of direct exposure where the block allows. And in homes that sit empty midweek, the timer can be set so the tank is hot for the weekend without running when nobody is there. See our work across Mornington.
Each one installed by our own plumber and electrician, wired on its own circuit and timed for solar.
A compact all-in-one that suits most family homes. The 270L tank covers a household of four to six with normal use and is simple to set for solar hours.
Available in 220L, 270L and 320L. The 220L suits a beach house used by two, the 320L a full house over summer with family staying.
Australian made, with the compressor separate from the tank. That lets us keep the tank against the house and put the compressor in the most sheltered spot, away from the salt wind.
200L, 250L and 330L models. A sensible pick for a smaller unit or townhouse near Main Street, or the 330L where the household is larger.
The full range is on our products page.
The Emerald All-In-One Pro heat pump, app-controlled, in 220L, 270L and 320L sizes.
An Australian-made split heat pump, with the tank and the outdoor unit able to sit apart.
The iStore 270L all-in-one heat pump, a common straight swap for a family-sized gas tank.
The Haier 500 Series monoblock heat pump water heater, in 200L, 250L and 330L sizes.
Our nearest written-up hot water work is in Mount Martha, Langwarrin and St Andrews Beach.
Next door in Mount Martha, new hot water went in with 28 all-black Jinko Tiger Neo III panels on a tin roof and a 16.64kWh GoodWe battery on the south wall. The owner called the team "prompt, efficient, clear, good humoured and responsive".
In Langwarrin, a 270L iStore heat pump was designed into one system with 21.85kW of Jinko solar, 45.2kWh of Sigenergy storage and an EV charger, so the tank heats from the roof.
On the southern Peninsula, the gas hot water service had failed and earlier solar had corroded in the sea air and stopped. We replaced both: an Emerald heat pump, 20 Jinko panels, a Sigenergy hybrid and 16.12kWh of storage.
We replace old systems rather than repair them, so the visit is about the new unit.

Mains gas, LPG, electric element or old solar, and whether the house has solar panels now.
Where the old unit sits, the airflow around it and how exposed it is to the wind off the bay.
A 270L to 300L tank for a family of four to six. VEU and STCs taken off the fixed price.
Plumber and electrician on site together: old unit out, heat pump in, its own circuit run.
Heating scheduled into the middle of the day, and shown to you before we go.
Two incentives on heat pump hot water, both applied at point of sale. Solar Victoria does not cover hot water.
Mornington is inside the VEU area. Eligible heat pumps get a discount, largest when a gas unit is replaced. We apply it on the quote and lodge it.
If your panels are older or small, a heat pump is a good reason to look at them again. See solar and battery in Mornington.
Small-scale technology certificates apply to heat pump hot water. They come off at point of sale along with the VEU discount.
In a suburb this solar-heavy, the heat pump and the panels should be set up together.
Gas, LPG and electric tanks each lead to a slightly different job. You get the one that suits your house.
We set the heat pump to the hours your panels produce, so it runs from your roof from day one.
Our own plumbers and A-Grade electricians, on site together. No subcontractors.
We are based in Somerville. If the timer needs adjusting after the first month, we are close.

The whole experience of working with Powerband has been fantastic. From the get go they were helpful with the design, requirements and answering all the questions we had about the install. We couldn't be happier with choosing them for the job. Special thanks to Bailey and the team for getting the entire installation done in one day it was a huge job so for it to be done and to such a high standard is much appreciated Thanks everyone at Powerband for all you've donePosted on Google![]()

We have just had a Braemer Dominator reverse cycle ducted system installed by the Powerband Electrical team to replace our gas-fired system. We were very happy with the whole process, from the sales/design discussions with Dayle to the installation by the team led by Julian and including Logan and Darren. Using the existing ducting had its challenges but the team overcame them well. Julian set up the AirTouch5 control system & zoning with us and with a sudden cold snap arriving it has proven simple to use to create a comfortable environment. In fact we are already finding it far more effective system than the considerably larger gas unit and a more uniform heat with less draughts. Thanks to the Powerband team. Petris and his electrical team did 2 inverter airconditioner installs as part of our whole solar system install. Great workers, good thinkers who could sort out a couple of small issues in short order and wonderful people to have around our house. Organised and professional. Highly recommend Powerband.Posted on Google![]()

Had the Powerband team electrify out whole house. Updated the heating / cooling with split systems, replace gas cooktop & hot water and put solar on with a 30kw battery. No gas bill, solar is producing more energy than we consume. These days we barely even have the supply charge. As part of it, they put the package together of what we wanted and needed to future proof our house and showed us several options for paying for it, in the end we opted for a 5-year interest free loan. Looking at our numbers, most of the loan will be paid off from the savings from our gas and electricity savings. All the work and upgrades done and barely any out of pocket cost, nice.... The team were great - worked in with timing for the jobs when it worked for us. The boys on site were all great, friendly, polite and professional. Did the job well and packed up (and cleaned up) well. Happy to recommend Powerband to anyone wanting to electrify their house in a cost-effective way.Posted on Google![]()

Yes. A heat pump runs on electricity, so it suits homes on LPG as well as mains gas. You stop buying bottles for hot water, and the VEU discount applies when gas is being replaced.
Usually. An electric element tank uses far more power than a heat pump to make the same hot water, and with solar the heat pump can run from your panels in the day.
Heat pumps run on a timer. For a house that is empty midweek, we set it so the tank is hot when you arrive and walk you through the settings.
As sheltered from salt wind as the site allows, with room for air to move. A Reclaim split unit gives more choice because the compressor can sit apart from the tank.
No. We replace them with heat pumps. If yours is leaking or failing, we quote a replacement sized to your household.
For a family of four to six, a 270L to 300L tank such as the iStore 270L or Emerald 270L. For a beach house used by one or two people, a 200L or 220L Haier or Emerald is usually enough.
Tell us what the tank runs on and we will book a short visit, then send a written price with the incentives off.
