Hot water in Clyde NorthFamily homes, and a gas unit doing overtime
Clyde North homes were mostly built on the estates over the last fifteen or so years, and the earlier streets were plumbed for gas. That usually means a gas hot water unit on a side wall, either a storage tank or an instantaneous unit, and plenty of them are now old enough to be thinking about. Across the hot water systems Clyde North households replace with us, the common thread is the family: a unit picked when the house was built is not always sized for the household living there now.
A heat pump makes the same hot water with about a quarter of the energy of a gas storage unit. For a family of four to six with normal use, a 270L to 300L tank covers it. Set it to run through the middle of the day and, if there are panels on the roof, most of that energy comes from your own solar instead of the grid.
Where a newer home was built without gas, the existing unit is electric, and a heat pump still makes sense for the running cost. Either way we look at where the unit sits, how much room the side path gives us and what the switchboard can take, then quote it with the other work we do in Clyde North.
