Electrification in Frankston SouthBig homes, ducted gas and roofs under the gums
Frankston South homes tend to be generous: larger floor plans, a second storey on many, gardens with tall trees and roofs broken into several faces. Most were built to run on gas, with ducted gas heating, a gas hot water service and often a gas cooktop. That is three separate appliances, three different trades and, because the house is big, a heating load that dominates the energy bill every winter.
Home electrification Frankston South style is less about one big swap and more about getting the sequence right. Heating comes first in most of these homes, because the ducted gas heater is the biggest user and reverse cycle runs at around a third of its running cost. In a two-storey house, though, the ducts feeding the ground floor often run between the floors where nobody can reach them. In those homes only, a Braemar Dominator keeps the existing ducts. Everywhere else, new R1.5 ducts go in.
Solar is the other local puzzle. Tree-shaded, multi-face roofs need a careful layout, and sometimes a larger battery to make up for a shorter solar day. We draw the whole plan at the first inspection, so the switchboard, the heat pump and the panels all fit together. You can see the rest of our Frankston South work here.
