Heating in Crib PointHeaters that warm one room and cool none
A lot of Crib Point houses are heated the old-fashioned way. A wood heater in the lounge, a gas space heater on a bottle, an oil column or panel heater in a bedroom, and in summer a pedestal fan and the back door open. It works well enough for the room you sit in, and leaves the rest of the house cold in July and stuffy in January.
Because so many of these homes have never had ducts, the usual answer here is not ducted. A split system in the living area and one or two in the bedrooms, or a multi-head running several rooms from one outdoor unit, gives every room heating and cooling without opening up the ceiling. Reverse cycle runs at around a third of the running cost of gas heating, and against bottled gas or a pile of firewood the comparison is usually easier still.
Where a house does have good roof space and the owner wants one system for the whole home, we build ducted reverse cycle from scratch on new R1.5 insulated ducts. Either way we start by checking what the house runs on now and what the switchboard can take. Other work we do locally is on the Crib Point page.
