Heating and cooling in ClydeTwo kinds of Clyde house, two different jobs
Clyde has been built in two chapters. Homes from the first stages, from about 2015, were connected to gas and mostly have a ducted gas heater in the roof, sometimes with evaporative cooling beside it. Homes in the most recent stages were built after the state ended gas connections for new houses, so they left the builder with reverse cycle already in place. The question we get depends entirely on which chapter your street belongs to.
In an all-electric home the system is the right type but not always the right amount. A standard build package often covers the living area and the main bedroom and stops there, or supplies a ducted unit with a single thermostat that treats the whole house as one room. The fix is small: a split in each room that was left out, or zoning added so the bedrooms are not conditioned all day.
In the gas stages the heater is still fairly young, and we will tell you if it should stay. When it does come out, the swap is to ducted reverse cycle on new R1.5 insulated ducts, which gives the house refrigerated cooling at the same time. Either way we look before we quote. More about our local work is on the Clyde page.
