Heating in Narre WarrenThe heater is older than the mortgage
In the streets built around Fountain Gate in the 1980s and 1990s, ducted gas was the standard fit. Some of those heaters are the originals. Others are the second unit, put in when the first one died in the 2000s. Either way the heater above the ceiling in a typical Narre Warren home is now 25 to 40 years old, and parts for the oldest are hard to find. Too often they are replaced in the coldest week of the year, in a hurry, with whatever can be delivered.
A planned swap is a better job. With time to measure the house, we fit a ducted reverse cycle unit matched to the rooms, and in a single-storey home the old gas ducts come out and new R1.5 insulated ducts go in. That matters because the system now cools as well as heats, and ducts that were adequate for warm air lose too much in summer. Reverse cycle heating runs at around a third of the running cost of gas heating.
Narre Warren also has plenty of double-storey homes from the same era. Upstairs ducts in the roof can be replaced. Ducts that drop to the ground floor through wall cavities and the space between floors often cannot, and that is the one case where we use a Braemar Dominator on the existing ductwork. We inspect before recommending either, and it sits alongside the other work we do in Narre Warren.
