Heating in Narre Warren SouthTwo ageing systems, one replacement
The estates of Narre Warren South were built in the 1990s and 2000s to a familiar recipe: a ducted gas heater in the roof for winter and, very often, an evaporative cooler on top of the roof for summer. That is two machines, two sets of ducts and two service calls. The gas heaters are now 20 to 30 years old, and evaporative cooling does little on a humid day.
A ducted reverse cycle system does both jobs from one unit. The gas heater and its ducts come out, a reverse cycle unit goes in, and new R1.5 insulated ducts are run to outlets placed for cooling as well as heating. In winter it heats at around a third of the running cost of gas heating. In summer it cools whatever the humidity, with the windows shut.
Because the homes are large, the control matters as much as the unit. We know this from doing it here: our written-up Narre Warren South job has 16 outlets split into six zones, so the family room, the lounge, the study and the bedrooms are each set separately. Many homes in the suburb are double storey, and for those we check which ducts can be renewed. More about our work in Narre Warren South.
