Heating in BitternNo gas main, so no cheap gas to give up
In the suburbs the heating conversation is about leaving mains gas. In Bittern most properties never had it. The house is warmed by bottled LPG through a space heater or a ducted unit, by a wood heater in the living room, or by both, and summer is handled with ceiling fans and open windows. LPG is a dear way to heat a house, and a wood heater warms one room well and the far bedrooms hardly at all.
Reverse cycle fixes both problems with one system. It heats for a fraction of what bottled gas costs to run, it reaches the rooms the fire does not, and it cools in January. Because most of these homes have no existing ductwork, the usual answer is a multi-head system or a few well-placed splits. Where there is a good roof space and the owners want every room done, we build a ducted system from scratch on new R1.5 insulated ducts.
Nobody has to give up the wood heater. Plenty of our rural customers keep it for the coldest nights and let the reverse cycle do the everyday work. And a property with three-phase power and a big roof is well placed to run its heating from solar. More on what we do for Bittern properties.
