Heating in BalnarringOff the woodpile and the gas bottle
Winter on the Balnarring side of the Peninsula is colder than the bay suburbs, and a lot of homes here still heat the way they always have: a wood heater in the lounge and LPG bottles for a space heater or the cooktop. It works, but it means splitting wood, ordering bottles, cold bedrooms at the far end of the house and nothing at all for the hot north-wind days in summer.
Reverse cycle changes that. One system heats in winter and cools in summer, with heat delivered to the rooms that need it rather than one hot spot by the fire. Compared with gas heating it costs around a third as much to run, and if the property has solar, much of the daytime heating comes straight off the roof.
The right system depends on the house. Brick homes in the township with a usable roof space suit ducted reverse cycle on new R1.5 insulated ducts. Farmhouses, extended homes and places with raked ceilings usually suit split systems or a multi-head. We look first, then recommend. See our Balnarring services.
