Heating in Aspendale GardensThirty winters on one gas heater
Most of Aspendale Gardens went up between the mid 1980s and the late 1990s, and most of it went up with ducted gas. A heater in the roof, a return air grille in the hallway, vents through the house, and in the two-storey homes a single system trying to heat both floors from one thermostat. Many of those heaters are close to thirty years old. Cooling arrived later, as an evaporative unit or a split or two.
The single-storey homes are the easier swap. The gas heater and old ducts come out, and a ducted reverse cycle unit goes in on new R1.5 insulated ducts sized to it. In two-storey homes we replace every duct we can reach. Where the ground floor is fed through ducts between the floors that cannot be replaced, a Braemar Dominator fits in the gas heater's spot and controls the airflow through them.
Either way, the change that people notice most is zoning. With AirTouch 5, upstairs and downstairs run as separate zones, and bedrooms can be split out too, so the family room is not heated all night and the bedrooms are not cooled all day. Heating then costs around a third of the running cost of gas. More about our Aspendale Gardens services.
