Heating in Wheelers HillA two-storey house with one tired gas heater
Many Wheelers Hill homes were built in the 1970s and 80s as large two-storey family houses, heated by a single ducted gas unit. Upstairs runs warm and stuffy, downstairs takes an age to heat, and summer cooling usually came later as an add-on. Plenty of those gas heaters are original or on their second replacement.
The two storeys are what shape the job. Upstairs ducts in the roof space can be reached, so they come out and are replaced with new R1.5 insulated ducts sized to the new unit, which is our standard. Ground floor ducts sometimes run through the void between floors, where nobody can get at them. That is the case where a Braemar Dominator makes sense: it takes the place of the gas heater, works with the ducts that are already there and controls the airflow through them.
We decide which applies after tracing the ducts, not before. Wheelers Hill is about 40 minutes from our depot in Somerville, and we service it with our own technicians and electricians. Read more about our work in Wheelers Hill.
