Single storey: new unit, new ducts
The straightforward Rowville job. Gas heater and old ducts out, ducted reverse cycle and new R1.5 insulated ducts in, typically one to two days on site.
- New R1.5 ducts
- Heats and cools
- VEU discount on the quote
Ducted reverse cycle on new R1.5 insulated ducts to replace the gas heater and do the cooling as well, with AirTouch zoning for big family homes. Installed by ARC licensed technicians and A-Grade electricians who service Rowville from Somerville.
The typical Rowville home was built in the 1980s or 1990s with ducted gas heating, and many had an evaporative cooler added on the roof soon after. Thirty-odd years on, the heater is noisy and the cooler struggles on humid days, and the household is paying a gas supply charge all year for a few months of heating.
A ducted reverse cycle system does both jobs. In a single-storey Rowville home we remove the gas unit and old ducts and run new R1.5 insulated ducts sized to the new unit, which then heats in winter and cools in summer through the same outlets. It costs around a third of the running cost of gas heating, and once it is in, the evaporative cooler is no longer needed for cooling.
Double-storey homes need a closer look. Upstairs ducts usually run in the roof and can be replaced. Downstairs ducts often run in the floor space between the levels, where nobody can reach them. That is the one case where we use a Braemar Dominator on the existing ducts. We check which applies before quoting. See more of our work around Rowville.
Braemar, Mitsubishi Electric and Hisense, with refrigeration, ducting and electrical all done by our own crew.
The straightforward Rowville job. Gas heater and old ducts out, ducted reverse cycle and new R1.5 insulated ducts in, typically one to two days on site.
If the downstairs ducts run between floors and cannot be replaced, a Braemar Dominator goes where the gas heater was and controls the airflow through the existing ducts. Used only where replacement is not possible.
AirTouch 5 splits upstairs from downstairs and bedrooms from living areas, so the teenager's room and the lounge are not fighting over one thermostat.
Mitsubishi Electric or Hisense wall units for a home office, a granny flat or a converted garage. A few hours each to install.

Ducted reverse cycle, including the Dominator for homes where the existing ducts have to stay.
Ducted units for tight roof spaces, plus split and multi-head systems.
Ducted and split systems, with anti-corrosive Golden Fin coils on the ducted range.
Zoning control for ducted systems, with a sensor in each zone and control from your phone.
No Rowville heating job is written up yet. These three cover the situations we see most in Rowville homes.
The gas ducted system was decommissioned and a 16kW Braemar Dominator went in on the original ductwork, controlled through AirTouch 5 with zone and temperature sensors. This job carried a $6,000 rebate.
Across town in Cairnlea, the gas ducted heater came out and an 18kW ducted reverse cycle unit went in, with ducting run to ten vents and seven AirTouch 5 zones. The owner's rebate on this job was $6,300.
In Doreen the gas heating, hot water and cooktop were all replaced in one job: 23.5kW ducted reverse cycle across 12 vents and seven zones, a Reclaim heat pump and an induction cooktop.
Typically one to two days for ducted on new R1.5 ducts. A split is a few hours.

We check the roof space, follow the duct runs and find out whether the ground-floor ducts can be reached.
New ducts wherever they can be fitted, a Dominator only where they cannot, and a unit sized to the whole house.
Brand, capacity, zones, duct work and the after-VEU price in writing.
Old gas unit removed, new unit and ducts fitted, dedicated circuit run from the switchboard.
Airflow balanced, zones set up with you, heating and cooling both tested before we leave.
The discount is on the quote. The running cost saving comes every bill after.
Replacing gas ducted heating with efficient reverse cycle is the upgrade the VEU program discounts most in most homes. It appears on your quote, and we confirm eligibility first.
Reverse cycle on a mild afternoon can run mostly from rooftop panels. If you are also looking at solar and batteries in Rowville, we size the two together.
With heating electric, hot water and cooking are often the last gas appliances. Change those as well and the daily gas supply charge can go.
The duct question decides the job in a two-storey home. We answer it on site, not over the phone.

Our default is new R1.5 ducts. We only reuse existing ducts with a Braemar Dominator when they truly cannot be replaced.

The whole experience of working with Powerband has been fantastic. From the get go they were helpful with the design, requirements and answering all the questions we had about the install. We couldn't be happier with choosing them for the job. Special thanks to Bailey and the team for getting the entire installation done in one day it was a huge job so for it to be done and to such a high standard is much appreciated Thanks everyone at Powerband for all you've donePosted on Google![]()

We have just had a Braemer Dominator reverse cycle ducted system installed by the Powerband Electrical team to replace our gas-fired system. We were very happy with the whole process, from the sales/design discussions with Dayle to the installation by the team led by Julian and including Logan and Darren. Using the existing ducting had its challenges but the team overcame them well. Julian set up the AirTouch5 control system & zoning with us and with a sudden cold snap arriving it has proven simple to use to create a comfortable environment. In fact we are already finding it far more effective system than the considerably larger gas unit and a more uniform heat with less draughts. Thanks to the Powerband team. Petris and his electrical team did 2 inverter airconditioner installs as part of our whole solar system install. Great workers, good thinkers who could sort out a couple of small issues in short order and wonderful people to have around our house. Organised and professional. Highly recommend Powerband.Posted on Google![]()

Had the Powerband team electrify out whole house. Updated the heating / cooling with split systems, replace gas cooktop & hot water and put solar on with a 30kw battery. No gas bill, solar is producing more energy than we consume. These days we barely even have the supply charge. As part of it, they put the package together of what we wanted and needed to future proof our house and showed us several options for paying for it, in the end we opted for a 5-year interest free loan. Looking at our numbers, most of the loan will be paid off from the savings from our gas and electricity savings. All the work and upgrades done and barely any out of pocket cost, nice.... The team were great - worked in with timing for the jobs when it worked for us. The boys on site were all great, friendly, polite and professional. Did the job well and packed up (and cleaned up) well. Happy to recommend Powerband to anyone wanting to electrify their house in a cost-effective way.Posted on Google![]()

For heating and cooling, yes. A ducted reverse cycle unit does both through the same outlets, so the evaporative cooler is no longer needed for cooling.
Usually the upstairs ducts in the roof can be. Ground-floor ducts that run between the floors often cannot. Where that happens we use a Braemar Dominator on the existing ducts, and we confirm which applies at the inspection.
Refrigerated cooling holds a set temperature on humid days too, which an evaporative cooler cannot. With new insulated ducts and zoning, cooling is aimed at the rooms you are using.
Commonly four to six, splitting living areas from bedrooms and upstairs from downstairs. We plan them with you at the site visit.
Plan on one to two days for ducted with new R1.5 ducts. We schedule so the old heater runs until the new system is ready.
Most homes replacing gas heating are, but the amount depends on the existing heater and the new unit. We check and show it on the quote.
We trace the ducts, check the roof space and switchboard, then send a written quote with the brand, capacity, zones and after-VEU price. No obligation.
