Heating in Noble ParkWhere the outdoor unit goes is half the job
So much of Noble Park is now units and townhouses that the usual heating conversation, about ducted gas in a big roof space, only fits part of the suburb. A typical unit here has one living area, two or three bedrooms, a small courtyard and a gas wall furnace or an ageing wall air conditioner. There is rarely a roof space worth the name, and no room for ducts in it.
Split systems suit these homes well. A wall unit in the living area and one in the main bedroom will heat and cool a unit for around a third of the running cost of gas heating, and each goes in over a few hours. The skill is in the placement. The outdoor unit has to sit somewhere with clear airflow that is not under a neighbour's bedroom window, not blocking a shared driveway and, on a strata title, not on common property without approval.
The original 1950s to 1970s houses that remain are a different job. Those with ducted gas and a usable roof space get ducted reverse cycle on new R1.5 insulated ducts. Those heated by a wall furnace get splits or a multi-head. We look before we recommend, and it all ties in with the other work we do in Noble Park.
