What we see in Bunyip homes

Most of Bunyip's housing is estate-built since the mid 2000s, in the Cardinia Shire corridor about 60 minutes from Somerville. Good roofs, modern wiring and, in the newest streets, no gas connection to begin with. That makes Bunyip a solar, battery and EV suburb first, with heat pumps and induction for the earlier estates that were plumbed for gas.

Most Bunyip properties skip the gas conversation entirely and go straight to the question that matters: how much solar and battery does this place need to run itself. We size for the real load, including sheds and pumps, and we configure backup circuits properly because power outages are a fact of life out here.

Bunyip is regular territory for our crews, and a site inspection there is usually within the week. We design every job as one system, so the solar is sized for the heat pump it will run and the switchboard is checked before the EV charger is quoted.

What we do in Bunyip

Solar, EV and the all-electric package for Bunyip

For Bunyip's newer homes the order flips: solar, battery and EV charging first, heat pumps and induction for the earlier estates still on gas.

New Bunyip homes have good roofs and modern switchboards, and a lot of them were sold with a small solar system that is now undersized for an EV and a heat pump. We size properly the first time, or upgrade what is there, and pair it with a Sigenergy or Tesla battery so the evening peak is covered.

Solar & Battery across Melbourne

EV chargers are one of the most common jobs we do in Bunyip: modern boards, short cable runs, often a pre-wired garage. Charger supplied and installed, solar mode configured, Certificate of Electrical Safety issued.

EV Chargers across Melbourne

Bunyip is active building country and new Victorian homes are all-electric. We deliver the electrical fit-out and the full electric package (solar, reverse cycle, heat pump, induction, EV circuit) as one contractor, priced from the plans and installed to the build program.

Builders across Melbourne

Bunyip winters are cold and a lot of the houses heat with wood or bottled gas. Reverse cycle from Braemar, Mitsubishi or Hisense heats for a fraction of the cost and cools in summer. We size it to the house, not the brochure, and the VEU discount applies.

Heating & Cooling across Melbourne

Electric storage tanks and bottled-gas hot water are the norm in Bunyip, and both are expensive to run. A heat pump does the same job on about a quarter of the energy, qualifies for VEU discounts and STCs, and set to run at midday it heats on the solar. One-day changeover.

Hot Water Systems across Melbourne

Electrification in Bunyip rarely starts with gas removal because there is little or none. It starts with a solar and battery system sized for the property, then heat pump hot water and reverse cycle running on it, then EV charging. We design the system as a whole so nothing is undersized later.

Home Electrification across Melbourne

Bunyip has a steady rental market, and we do the two-yearly electrical safety checks Victorian rental providers need, smoke alarm and switchboard compliance, and the heat pump and split system upgrades landlords are asked for. Per-property reports and tenant access handled by us.

The whole experience of working with Powerband has been fantastic. From the get go they were helpful with the design, requirements and answering all the questions we had about the install. We couldn't be happier with choosing them for the job. Special thanks to Bailey and the team for getting the entire installation done in one day it was a huge job so for it to be done and to such a high standard is much appreciated Thanks everyone at Powerband for all you've done

We have just had a Braemer Dominator reverse cycle ducted system installed by the Powerband Electrical team to replace our gas-fired system. We were very happy with the whole process, from the sales/design discussions with Dayle to the installation by the team led by Julian and including Logan and Darren. Using the existing ducting had its challenges but the team overcame them well. Julian set up the AirTouch5 control system & zoning with us and with a sudden cold snap arriving it has proven simple to use to create a comfortable environment. In fact we are already finding it far more effective system than the considerably larger gas unit and a more uniform heat with less draughts. Thanks to the Powerband team. Ken in Glen Waverley

Petris and his electrical team did 2 inverter airconditioner installs as part of our whole solar system install. Great workers, good thinkers who could sort out a couple of small issues in short order and wonderful people to have around our house. Organised and professional. Highly recommend Powerband.

Had the Powerband team electrify out whole house. Updated the heating / cooling with split systems, replace gas cooktop & hot water and put solar on with a 30kw battery. No gas bill, solar is producing more energy than we consume. These days we barely even have the supply charge. As part of it, they put the package together of what we wanted and needed to future proof our house and showed us several options for paying for it, in the end we opted for a 5-year interest free loan. Looking at our numbers, most of the loan will be paid off from the savings from our gas and electricity savings. All the work and upgrades done and barely any out of pocket cost, nice.... The team were great - worked in with timing for the jobs when it worked for us. The boys on site were all great, friendly, polite and professional. Did the job well and packed up (and cleaned up) well. Happy to recommend Powerband to anyone wanting to electrify their house in a cost-effective way.

FAQ

Bunyip questions

Anything else, call 0466 355 441.

Is Bunyip eligible for Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts?

Yes. Bunyip is inside the VEU area, so heat pump hot water, reverse cycle heating and cooling and induction cooktops all attract discounts, with the largest when you are replacing gas. We apply them on the quote.

Is Bunyip on mains gas?

Mostly not. Most Bunyip properties run on electricity with bottled gas for cooking at most, so electrification here is about solar, battery and heat pumps rather than gas removal. We confirm what your property has at the inspection.

How quickly can you get to Bunyip for a quote?

Usually within the week, often sooner. Our depot is in Somerville, about 60 minutes from Bunyip.

Do Bunyip homes have enough roof for solar and a battery?

Nearly all of them. A standard Bunyip home takes 6.6kW to 10kW comfortably, and larger blocks take more. We size to your usage and to whatever gas appliances you are replacing.

Which suburbs around Bunyip do you cover?

All of them. Garfield, Tynong and Nar Nar Goon and the rest of the South East and Casey area, and across Melbourne. See the locations page for the full list.
