What we see in Clayton homes

Clayton sits in the City of Monash area, about 35 km and 40 minutes from our Somerville depot, next to Huntingdale, Oakleigh East and Clarinda. Most of the housing went up between the 1960s and the 1980s: brick veneer on a slab or stumps, a ducted gas heater in the roof and a gas storage tank against the side wall. It is the most common kind of house we electrify, and the one where the savings are largest.

Because Clayton is on mains gas and inside the VEU area, the typical order of works is heating and hot water first for the rebates and the running-cost drop, then solar and a battery sized to the new electric load, then the cooktop, then the gas meter abolished. We plan the whole sequence at the first inspection so nothing has to be redone.

We have been working in Clayton and around Huntingdale, Oakleigh East and Clarinda for years. Site inspections are free, the quote is fixed with every rebate already applied, and the same in-house crew does the electrical, refrigeration and plumbing. If you are weighing up where to start, our home electrification page walks through the order, or call and we will tell you straight for your house.

What we do in Clayton

Every service, written for Clayton homes

Ordered by what pays back fastest in Clayton's housing: heating and hot water first, then solar and battery sized to the new electric load.

Replacing a 20-plus-year-old ducted gas heater with a Braemar or Mitsubishi reverse cycle unit on the existing ducts is the job we do most in Clayton. The house gets cooling for the first time, the gas bill drops and the VEU discount comes off the install. Where ducts are not practical, split systems from Panasonic, Mitsubishi or Haier cover the living areas and bedrooms.

Heating & Cooling across Melbourne

Most Clayton homes still have a gas storage tank, and when it fails it is usually replaced like for like without anyone asking the question. The better answer is a heat pump from Reclaim, iStore or Emerald, installed in a day by our plumber and electrician together, with VEU and STCs both applied. About a quarter of the energy, and normally the fastest-paying step off gas.

Hot Water Systems across Melbourne

A typical Clayton brick veneer has room for 6.6kW to 13kW of panels and the evening load to justify a battery. We design from your bills, install with our own CEC-accredited electricians and apply every Victorian and federal incentive on the quote.

Solar & Battery across Melbourne

Once heating and hot water are electric, the cooktop is the last gas appliance in most Clayton kitchens and the reason the supply charge keeps arriving. We supply and install the induction cooktop, run the dedicated circuit and cap the gas, usually in half a day, with the VEU discount applied.

Induction Cooktops across Melbourne

Clayton has a mix of single and three-phase supply depending on the street and the age of the connection, and the older switchboards often need work before a charger goes in. We check both before quoting a Tesla Wall Connector, Sigenergy or Zappi, and set it to charge from your solar first.

EV Chargers across Melbourne

Infill and knockdown-rebuild work is steady across Clayton, and new Victorian homes are all-electric. We provide the electrical fit-out and the complete electric package for builders as one contractor, priced from the plans.

The whole experience of working with Powerband has been fantastic. From the get go they were helpful with the design, requirements and answering all the questions we had about the install. We couldn't be happier with choosing them for the job. Special thanks to Bailey and the team for getting the entire installation done in one day it was a huge job so for it to be done and to such a high standard is much appreciated Thanks everyone at Powerband for all you've done

We have just had a Braemer Dominator reverse cycle ducted system installed by the Powerband Electrical team to replace our gas-fired system. We were very happy with the whole process, from the sales/design discussions with Dayle to the installation by the team led by Julian and including Logan and Darren. Using the existing ducting had its challenges but the team overcame them well. Julian set up the AirTouch5 control system & zoning with us and with a sudden cold snap arriving it has proven simple to use to create a comfortable environment. In fact we are already finding it far more effective system than the considerably larger gas unit and a more uniform heat with less draughts. Thanks to the Powerband team. Ken in Glen Waverley

Petris and his electrical team did 2 inverter airconditioner installs as part of our whole solar system install. Great workers, good thinkers who could sort out a couple of small issues in short order and wonderful people to have around our house. Organised and professional. Highly recommend Powerband.

Had the Powerband team electrify out whole house. Updated the heating / cooling with split systems, replace gas cooktop & hot water and put solar on with a 30kw battery. No gas bill, solar is producing more energy than we consume. These days we barely even have the supply charge. As part of it, they put the package together of what we wanted and needed to future proof our house and showed us several options for paying for it, in the end we opted for a 5-year interest free loan. Looking at our numbers, most of the loan will be paid off from the savings from our gas and electricity savings. All the work and upgrades done and barely any out of pocket cost, nice.... The team were great - worked in with timing for the jobs when it worked for us. The boys on site were all great, friendly, polite and professional. Did the job well and packed up (and cleaned up) well. Happy to recommend Powerband to anyone wanting to electrify their house in a cost-effective way.

FAQ

Clayton questions

Anything else, call 0466 355 441.

Is Clayton eligible for Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts?

Yes. Clayton is inside the VEU area, so heat pump hot water, reverse cycle heating and cooling and induction cooktops all attract discounts, with the largest when you are replacing gas. We apply them on the quote.

Can you replace ducted gas heating in a Clayton home using the existing ducts?

In most Clayton homes, yes. We inspect the ducts and the plenum at the site visit, and if they are sound the reverse cycle unit connects to them. That is the single biggest saving in the job.

How quickly can you get to Clayton for a quote?

Usually within the week, often sooner. Our depot is in Somerville, about 40 minutes from Clayton.

Do Clayton homes have enough roof for solar and a battery?

Nearly all of them. A standard Clayton home takes 6.6kW to 10kW comfortably, and larger blocks take more. We size to your usage and to whatever gas appliances you are replacing.

Which suburbs around Clayton do you cover?

All of them. Huntingdale, Oakleigh East and Clarinda and the rest of the Eastern Suburbs area, and across Melbourne. See the locations page for the full list.
