Working in Brighton

About 50 minutes up the bay from Somerville, Brighton has the mix we expect in City of Bayside: period homes, 60s brick and a steady run of renovations and knockdown rebuilds. Roofs are large, gas is everywhere in the older stock, and salt air makes the choice of outdoor units matter more than it does inland.

The gas heater and the hot water unit are where a Brighton home's energy money goes, and both are in the Victorian Energy Upgrades area, so replacing them attracts VEU discounts on top of the running-cost saving. Ducted reverse cycle usually connects to the existing ducts, and a heat pump hot water unit goes in on the same day the old tank comes out. Solar Victoria rebates and loans cover the panels and battery that follow.

We have been working in Brighton and around Gardenvale, Brighton East and Elsternwick for years. Site inspections are free, the quote is fixed with every rebate already applied, and the same in-house crew does the electrical, refrigeration and plumbing. If you are weighing up where to start, our home electrification page walks through the order, or call and we will tell you straight for your house.

What we do in Brighton

Eight services for Brighton, solar first

Big roofs and high evening usage put solar and battery first in Brighton, with the gas heating swap close behind.

Large roofs and high evening usage make Brighton a strong battery suburb. We check heritage and character overlays before designing panel placement, specify salt-rated hardware for the bayside air, and size the battery to your actual usage. Sigenergy, Tesla Powerwall and Sungrow, with all rebates lodged.

Solar & Battery across Melbourne

Replacing a 20-plus-year-old ducted gas heater with a Braemar or Mitsubishi reverse cycle unit on the existing ducts is the job we do most in Brighton. The house gets cooling for the first time, the gas bill drops and the VEU discount comes off the install. Where ducts are not practical, split systems from Panasonic, Mitsubishi or Haier cover the living areas and bedrooms.

Heating & Cooling across Melbourne

A full Brighton electrification is usually heating first, hot water second, then solar and battery sized to the new load, then the cooktop, then the gas meter abolished. Designed once at the first inspection, staged over as many visits as suits you, and every step attracts its own rebates.

Home Electrification across Melbourne

Most Brighton homes still have a gas storage tank, and when it fails it is usually replaced like for like without anyone asking the question. The better answer is a heat pump from Reclaim, iStore or Emerald, installed in a day by our plumber and electrician together, with VEU and STCs both applied. About a quarter of the energy, and normally the fastest-paying step off gas.

Hot Water Systems across Melbourne

EV charging in Brighton: switchboard checked, cable route agreed, Tesla Wall Connector, Sigenergy or Zappi installed and set to solar-first charging. Load management where the house is already running heat pumps and induction.

EV Chargers across Melbourne

Infill and knockdown-rebuild work is steady across Brighton, and new Victorian homes are all-electric. We provide the electrical fit-out and the complete electric package for builders as one contractor, priced from the plans.

Brighton qualifies for the Victorian and federal incentives going. They are on the quote, and we do the paperwork.

04

The whole experience of working with Powerband has been fantastic. From the get go they were helpful with the design, requirements and answering all the questions we had about the install. We couldn't be happier with choosing them for the job. Special thanks to Bailey and the team for getting the entire installation done in one day it was a huge job so for it to be done and to such a high standard is much appreciated Thanks everyone at Powerband for all you've done

We have just had a Braemer Dominator reverse cycle ducted system installed by the Powerband Electrical team to replace our gas-fired system. We were very happy with the whole process, from the sales/design discussions with Dayle to the installation by the team led by Julian and including Logan and Darren. Using the existing ducting had its challenges but the team overcame them well. Julian set up the AirTouch5 control system & zoning with us and with a sudden cold snap arriving it has proven simple to use to create a comfortable environment. In fact we are already finding it far more effective system than the considerably larger gas unit and a more uniform heat with less draughts. Thanks to the Powerband team. Ken in Glen Waverley

Petris and his electrical team did 2 inverter airconditioner installs as part of our whole solar system install. Great workers, good thinkers who could sort out a couple of small issues in short order and wonderful people to have around our house. Organised and professional. Highly recommend Powerband.

Had the Powerband team electrify out whole house. Updated the heating / cooling with split systems, replace gas cooktop & hot water and put solar on with a 30kw battery. No gas bill, solar is producing more energy than we consume. These days we barely even have the supply charge. As part of it, they put the package together of what we wanted and needed to future proof our house and showed us several options for paying for it, in the end we opted for a 5-year interest free loan. Looking at our numbers, most of the loan will be paid off from the savings from our gas and electricity savings. All the work and upgrades done and barely any out of pocket cost, nice.... The team were great - worked in with timing for the jobs when it worked for us. The boys on site were all great, friendly, polite and professional. Did the job well and packed up (and cleaned up) well. Happy to recommend Powerband to anyone wanting to electrify their house in a cost-effective way.

FAQ

Brighton questions

Anything else, call 0466 355 441.

Is Brighton eligible for Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts?

Yes. Brighton is inside the VEU area, so heat pump hot water, reverse cycle heating and cooling and induction cooktops all attract discounts, with the largest when you are replacing gas. We apply them on the quote.

Can you replace ducted gas heating in a Brighton home using the existing ducts?

In most Brighton homes, yes. We inspect the ducts and the plenum at the site visit, and if they are sound the reverse cycle unit connects to them. That is the single biggest saving in the job.

How quickly can you get to Brighton for a quote?

Usually within the week, often sooner. Our depot is in Somerville, about 50 minutes from Brighton.

Do you install batteries in Brighton?

Yes. Sigenergy, Tesla Powerwall and Sungrow, sized to your evening load, with backup circuits configured. Solar Victoria battery rebates and loans and the federal battery discount are applied on the quote.

Which suburbs around Brighton do you cover?

All of them. Gardenvale, Brighton East and Elsternwick and the rest of the Bayside and Inner South area, and across Melbourne. See the locations page for the full list.
